most all BIOS updates I made needed a bootable USB made from an image or had to be started from within the old BIOS setup.
usually you can’t rmmod a module in use. even if it’s deleted from the FS it’s still present until reboot, but if the cipher module you are using was in that package and it also got removed from the initrd (which often is rebuilt after performing changes like that), you won’t be able to decrypt the LUKS container after reboot unless you boot another system (e.g. a live USB) that has the cipher module you need.
this is why all those monster and mutant movies are so believable. there are probably mad scientists and crazy breeders out there right now plotting to create the next weird suffering monstrosity. we can only hope they settle for just making more glow-in-the-dark plants.

You could image the whole drive/partition, then restore from your backup and try to recover some new files not yet in the backup from the image using photorec or so.
it was probably because the tv wasn’t optimized for flatness, because there was no point yet. it had to be a tube at the time. like you can just go get some bulletproof glass and put it in front of your modern tv and it will be sturdy, but also bulky and heavy, like back in the day.
nice. i hope putin gets the message.
Just attach a sandwich to a drone and lead them to an Ukrainian city.

try to stay in sunlight. it kills many viruses and bacteria.
it’s not paranoia if they’re actually after you 😉
all the linux users i know are more like “are you using libreoffice or openoffice?” “i’m using lyx, of course”
That is a bit outdated and only true for plastic buried in landfills. In the ocean, for example, the half life is a lot less and Comamonas testosteroni a bacteria commonly found in wastewater can break down plastic to turn it into a food source.
if it’s recycled, maybe. if it decomposes, no, because the carbon will escape again.
Japan can have more vending machines, because their culture raises people in a way that they have less vandalism and the companies take more responsibility for problems with vending.
Isn’t the vote secret, so nobody can come after them for voting the wrong way?
