I think a lot of us have picked up, been taught, this idea that like “the past had bad stuff but it’s over now, and everyone’s better, and everyone who was fighting for bad things realized the errors of their ways and repented”.

You have to remember it’s not about facts, it’s about feelings. As I always say, we’re all susceptible to that to some extent, but the republicans have it bad.

A confounding issue is the apps themselves have gotten worse over time. Like, old okcupid you could search. You could type in like “final fantasy” or “the Mets” and find people who liked those things enough to put them on their profile.

Now you’re limited to whatever the app decides to give you. Well, the app doesn’t want you to leave so that incentive doesn’t line up.

AC typically provides real value. (Not counting when people air condition empty rooms, but that’s also a thing corporations typically do more).

Talking about direct action or even a mildly disruptive protest will probably get you moderated here, and in trouble in real life. It feels like the only options “allowed” are stern words. I read a book about startup stuff at the request of the CEO of my old company. Some of it was at least superficially interesting, but one part stood out as haunting. It casually mentioned how a “founder” at Zoom was trying to get money, and the investors thought it was a stupid idea. It was a “solved problem” that already had big players in the space. But they were personally friends with the guy, so they gave him a few hundred million dollars.

That’s not something to be proud of. Nepotism and bro-driven-investment isn’t the ideal.

But these rich assholes pretend they’re such visionaries. Gatekeepers of the future. Fuck them. Fuck them all. The climate is a disaster and they’re pouring billions into “Cats in the metaverse”? Crimes against humanity.

I really like Awakening but it’s hard to find players for it.

I had a group for about six months once, and it was pretty good. Except one player just never learned the rules, and refused to read clues. Like they found a clue on site that was like 10 sentences and she was like “I’m not reading all that”.

I feel the same, but tell myself that for many people “DnD” is a stand-in for any sort of imagination game. Like people say “kleenex” for tissue or “xerox” for copy.

I don’t think it saves time on net if you have to read it and then go verify it anyway. Might as well go directly to the more trustworthy source in the first place! And if you don’t care if your answer is correct, why even search? Just make something up.
