For me it’s the constant existential threat of failure leading to homelessness and starvation that really ratchets up the stress level. I have to keep track of everything and if something slips I’m fucked.
With school all I had to keep track of was classwork. If I slipped there the only consequence was a bad grade and maybe a grounding. I also had plenty of time for activities I wanted to do.

Yeah when the system is designed to keep you barely hanging on forever you live in constant fight or flight.
Unfortunately nothing will meaningfully improve until the rich fear for their lives
