I’ve been on the internet long enough that calling someone a “Nazi” went from being the highest insult to a historically accurate descriptor of a self identified group. Maybe shutting down Stormfront was a mistake because all the users went to twitter and facebook where their views became normalized.
Okay, but who is “calling everyone (they) disagree with nazis”? Look at the comment. The initial post is simply “Fuck Nazis.” It’s not calling anyone anything.
That’s why it works as bait. It’s not calling out any individuals in particular, so why would someone get offended by it? Simplest reason would be that they felt personally called out, because deep down some part of them identifies with that word.
It’s moving the goalposts. Maybe they aren’t a nazi, but a sympathizer to fascist ideals. If you’re at a table with 12 other nazi’s and you claim you’re not, well, that makes it a wee difficult in seeing otherwise.
Historically, do you know what they called Germans who voted for Hitler because of the economy? People that didn’t hold any hate for trans people, Jews, and other minorities?
as leftist, it is dumb to assume everyone that says “don’t call everyone you disagree with nazis” nazis
Creator of Godwin’s Law: You can totally call these guys Nazis

It was a pretty overused insult for a while. Something we have to deal with now that the actual nazis are pushing themselves forward.
Maybe they shouldn’t be throwing out sieg heils and getting swastika tattoos if they don’t want to be called Nazis.
As someone that has spent hundreds of hours studying history, the parallels between DJT and Hitler are pretty apparent.
Persecution of an outgroup (Jews and Mexicans)
Failed political coup (Beer hall putsch and Jan 6th)
Both used populism and economic crises to push their agenda
Demonization of mainstream media and consolidation of their own media networks (Radio stations and Truth Social / Twitter)
Raging narcissism and ego
The main difference is that Germany was in a much worse economic situation than America is now.
They’re trying really hard to fix that last one.
