If only the laws worked the way they do now (and my dad was still alive), I’d be getting my Irish citizenship and sharing your much milder embarrassment.
My dad would have been able to do it, then I could have. My grandfather was first generation, so I can’t unfortunately. My dad passed a few years ago due to ALS, so I’m SoL on that.
Its OK, my backup/escape plan is a digital nomad visa, then go from there. Thankfully I clear all hurdles for any of the countries offering them, I am OK (not great, but OK) at a few languages, etc. Saves the asylum option for others as things progress in the worst direction…

You can get it with proof of Irish parents or grandparents.
